SOUND SYSTEMS OVERVIEW
All battery R/C RCS Motor Drivers (MD’s) and EVO Electronic Speed Controllers (ESC’s) are compatible with a number of sound systems.
Following is a brief synopsis of what sound systems are available that will work with RCS & EVO products.
Both Dallee Steam and Diesel sound systems are compatible with our products. They do not require any special accessories to make them work. They can read PWM motor outputs OK. They can only be used with the RCS ELITE MD & EVO E-Series ESC’s
This is a new (Australian Made) basic sound system that is compatible with all RCS and EVO systems.
It depends on how they are to be used as to whether or not any extra equipment is required for them to function correctly.
1). If you are using the regular Sierra battery & powering the Sierra sound through terminals # 7 & # 8 you don’t need an opto interface on the motor reference terminals. You will need reed relays to trigger the sounds.
2). If you are using the battery R/C traction batteries to power the Sierra you must use a suitable opto coupler interface like the RCS # SSI-12v5. Otherwise there is a sneak path to ground via the PWM signal and the Sierra thinks it is meant sound full speed. The SSI-12v5 also provides a regulated 12 volt supply.
Again they can only be used as is with the RCS ELITE MD & EVO E-Series ESC’s.
The P5 sound system will work with the RCS BASIC & EVO B Series as well as with the RCS ELITE & EVO E series. The P5 has one trigger which can be activated by any RCS or EVO system. Another trigger is used to time the steam chuff or diesel engine roar speed. These triggers can read either high or low.
Add the P5T and you will have a total of six sound triggers. They are very flexible and can be programmed to assign any sound function to any triggers.
RCS ELITE & EVO E Series with the P5T. Available NOW.
At present, only the RCS ELITE & EVO E Series, which trigger low, can be used with all of the different Phoenix sound files. This is because the 6900 & 6902 series sound files can only trigger low via the P5T. You will be able to use the 6904 files when they become available.
The RCS ELITE has three sound triggers. Although the EVO E series has three sound triggers built in at present only two can be used. Three (two for EVO) wires from the P5T are connected to the sound trigger terminals on the RCS and EVO items. The sound functions in the P5 + P5T are operated by the regular accessory function buttons on the RCS TX-24 or RH TX stick for the EVO.
Extra Functions.
Three extra functions can be operated with the RCS TX-24 by adding a # PLUS-4. # PLUS-4 is a small pcb which plugs into the RCS RX-8. It has screw terminals to accept the remaining three wires from the P5T.
Address codes must match the TX-24. These are set by a 6 way DIP switch.
Two extra functions can be operated by a multi channel R/C with the EVO E series and a # 2-M-F which plugs into a spare channel on the multi channel receiver and also has screw terminals.
RCS BASIC & EVO B SERIES with the P5T. Available Oct 2007.
The RCS BASIC & EVO B series can only trigger high. The P5 must use only the upcoming 6904 series sound files, which will be programmable to read an R/C trigger either High or Low.
These MD’s and ESC’s have a number of options available to simplify installation.
See page #2 of the RCS BASIC and EVO B Series price lists for full application inform.
You can either wire in the connections yourself with the RCS or EVO supplied plug in cable or you can use the separately available # MOD-CABLE which will save a whole lot of wiring. You will have 3 sound triggers.
Extra Functions.
Three extra functions can be operated with the RCS TX-24 by adding a # PLUS-3. # PLUS-3 is a small pcb which plugs into the RX-8 & the # MOD-CABLE. Address codes must match the TX-24 via a 6 x DIP switch.
Two extra functions can be operated by a multi channel R/C with the EVO B series & a # 2-M-F, which plugs into a spare channel on the multi channel receiver and also has screw terminals.

Phoenix P5 Sound System configuration files.
These configuration files have been specially prepared to suit RCS ELITE and EVO 'E' Series control systems. They have been separated into locomotive type groups and packaged up into like groups in 'zip' files. Right click on a link below and select save as to download a set of configuration files.
To use a configuration file, extract the required file from the zip archive and use it to OVERWRITE the existing config file in your sound system.
Detailed instructions for their installation are contained on the above pricelist pdf file
